Where We Are

The Ashanti Region-Ghana

The orphanage is situated at Behenase traditional area in the suburb of Abijan Nkwanta in the city of Kumasi the capital of the Ashanti Region, precisely on the Esereso to Kentanase road off to Lak Bosomtwe in Ghana.

Kumasi is the capital city of Ashanti Region of Ghana.  The Ashanti Region is the most populated region in Ghana of about 4,780,380 accounting for 19.4% of Ghana's total population.  The population of Kumasi itself is estimated at about 1,517,000 with a growth rate of 2.5% per year.  The total land area is 254 sq. km.   The basic occupation is farming and there is also an ancient gold mine in a section of the region.  Cocoa farming used to be one basic source of wealth, but its cultivation has gone down drastically.  The youth basically resort to trading in various farm produce and other marketable items for their livelihood.  Kumasi is one of the most dramatic trading centers in Ghana and attracts many different cultures and people into the city for various reasons.

It is therefore common to find people of various cultures with various kinds of challenges and needs such as physical disabilities, poverty stricken, child labor and beggars, children without mothers and mothers with their babies begging for alms, specifically money to feed themselves.  The continuous migration of people from various corners of the country into the city of Kumasi is also giving rise to a high population rate leading to lack of shelter for most of these migrants and leaving a good number of them sleeping under uncompleted buildings or sheds or any available spaces which may appear usable for a little shelter.  All these challenges give relevance to the siting of the orphanage in the city of Kumasi.

Additionally, the city has well-established social amenities and basic human necessities, such as good roads, electricity, water systems, medical and educational facilities and well balanced social-cultural and ethical system of life.  All these have been considered to promote the life of the orphanage for the children's access to health, education, nutrition and general physical, spiritual and psychological growth and well-being.

This orphanage has the objective of serving humanity in humility, based on the Christian principle of the Lord and Master Jesus Christ who came to serve not to be served and gave his life as ransom for many.  (Mark 10:45)
